How to Keep the Aisle Carpet Clean Before the Bride in an Outdoor Wedding
The tradition of using wedding aisle runners actually comes from the superstition that the runner protected the bride and groom from the evil spirits that lived under the church floorboards. Today, many people use a wedding aisle runner to keep the bride's dress as clean as possible. However, outdoor weddings provide additional challenges because grass, dirt, leaves and other debris may dirty the aisle runner. Employing a few tips will keep the material clean for when the beautiful bride makes her entrance.

1
Place a second aisle carpet directly over the first carpet. This ensures that the runner underneath is kept completely clean until the bride steps foot on it. Choose whether you want to use a duplicate runner made of the same color or use another color of prominence in your wedding for the runner on top. Before the bride walks down the aisle, instruct the groomsmen to remove it.

2
Place a shoe mat just off to the side of the aisle carpet. Ask that guests or members of the wedding party wipe their feet before stepping onto the aisle runner.

3
Provide disposable shoe covers for your guests. Ask that the guests slip on the shoe covers if they are walking on the aisle runner in order to get to their seat. Members of the wedding party can also wear disposable shoe runners until the time they walk down the aisle. Provide a discard bin just before the entrance so they are easily disposed of before the ceremony.

4
Place the aisle runner down only after guests are seated. Instruct groomsmen to unfurl the aisle runner just before the bridal march begins. This also signals to others that the ceremony is about to start.

5
Place a decorative rope as a barrier in front of the center aisle to block guests from walking on the aisle runner. Instruct the groomsmen to seat guests from the side in order to keep the aisle carpet clean.
