How to Cut Speaker Box Carpet
The quality of a speaker's sound is directly affected by its enclosure. The speaker's boxes and ports must be sized for the technical specifications of each speaker. The final step in building a speaker box usually consists of covering it with carpet, which reduces box vibration.

1
Measure the width of the speaker enclosure with a measuring tape. Measure all four sides of the enclosure, and add 2 to 4 inches to each measurement. The results determine the dimensions of the length of carpet that must be cut.
-
2
Lay the speaker carpet on a hard surface. Mark the width measurement in several spots on the fabric using a measuring tape and fabric chalk. Lay a straight-edge along these markings. Draw a cut-line on the fabric with the chalk.

3
Mark the length measurement on the fabric in several locations. Lay the straight-edge along these markings. Draw a straight line with the chalk.
-
4
Cut along the proscribed lines with a sharp utility knife. Use one hand to hold the material. Hold the utility knife at a 45-degree angle to the fabric, and cut along the line.
-
5
Measure the width and height of the end of the speaker enclosure with a measuring tape. Add 2 inches to both measurements.
-
6
Transfer the measurements twice to the fabric; the carpet must cover both ends. Cut along the marked lines with a utility knife. Use the same method employed on the other section of carpet.
