Sewing a Doll Sling
Sewing a basic cloth sling for dolls and toys can involve older siblings in natural baby care. Young children can enjoy having their own sling and imitating parents following the birth of a new baby. Create a sling with fabric leftovers as an inexpensive baby gift for a family with older children. Save time on the project by using a fleece fabric, which does not need to be hemmed to prevent fraying.

1
Place the fabric on the measuring board. Measure and cut with the rotary cutter into a large rectangle. The dimensions should be 45 inches long by 20 inches wide.
-
2
Fold over 1/2 inch of fabric along both long sides and one short side of the rectangle, folding towards the wrong side of the cotton. Pin into place and hem. Maintain a 1/4-inch seam allowance while hemming, and remove the pins after finishing.

3
Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, with the right side of the print outwards. Sew a gathering stitch through both layers on the raw edge of the rectangle. Gently pull on the gathering thread until it reaches a width of approximately 5 inches.
-
4
Thread the gathered edge through both craft rings. Fold 2 inches of the fabric back over, and pin to the sling. Sew in place, forming a tube to secure the rings, and remove the gathering thread and pins.
-
5
Take the hemmed edge of the fabric, opposite the side attached to the rings. Pull the fabric through the inside of both rings. Pull the fabric over the inside ring and under the outside ring, fastening the sling into an adjustable loop.
