How to Make a Tie Out of Felt
Making a tie out of felt is a creative way to express your interest in business fashion. Felt ties also present an imaginative challenge to young children and art students. Create a costume piece by emulating a real tie with a felt substitute. Felt ties are ideal companion pieces when playing dress-up. Ask a child to measure and cut his own felt tie, then use his creation to teach him how to knot the neckwear. Encourage the child to show off his finished product by wearing it for family and friends.
Things You'll Need

1
Draw a 3-inch-by-53-inch tie outline with a standard piece of chalk on a piece of felt. Gradually narrow each side to make one end of the tie 3 inches wide and the opposite end 1 1/2 inches wide. Make the 3-inch end of the tie pointed so that it resembles a real tie. Make the tie shorter if the child is small.

Cut out the tie with a pair of fabric scissors.

Place the tie around the child's neck so that the pointed end is on his right side, the proper starting position to demonstrate how to knot the tie. Cross the pointed end over the narrow end. Pull the pointed end under the narrow end. Loop the pointed end over and then under the narrow end. Pull the pointed end up through the forming knot at the base of the child's neck. Tuck the pointed end down through the loop. Pull the pointed end tight.
