How to Dress a Child Up as a Clown
Clowns have appeared in popular culture from Ronald McDonald to Krusty the Clown. If you're looking for a costume for your child, the clown is a tried and true classic. You should be able to find most of the basic components you need for this clown outfit around the house, but if you want to go all out there are several extras you can use to make the costume special.
Things You'll Need
- Oversized pants
- Oversized long sleeved t-shirt
- Pom-poms (optional)
- Neck ruffle (optional)
- Patches of fabric (optional)
- Suspenders
- Face painting kit
- Colorful, curly wig

Attach brightly colored pom-poms to ankles of the pants, the wrists of the shirt and down the front of the shirt. Attach a ruffle to the neck of the shirt and randomly place the patches of fabric to the pants and shirt.

Dress your child in the pants and shirt. Put the suspenders on her to hold the pants up.

Paint your child's face like a clown. Cover your child's face with white face paint. Once it's dried add a large red smile, a red nose, rosy cheeks and red or blue circles around his eyes.

Put the wig on your child's head. If she has long hair, pin it up so that it doesn't show beneath the wig.

Tips & Warnings
If you can find them, you could give your child some clown accessories from a joke shop, such as a flower that squirts water or a horn.
