Make a soft and cozy fleece scarf for any outfit.

Keep her warm all winter long with a custom fleece scarf and headband set, made to coordinate with her favorite coat or snowsuit. The matching set lets you customize the color of the fleece and you can modify the items to make them warmer by adding an extra inner layer of fleece or microfiber for the coldest time of the year. Embellish the fleece winter accessories with decorative tassels or pom-poms.

Instructions

  1. Scarf

    • 1

Lay the fleece on your work table and draw a long rectangle that measures 48 inches by 6 inches.

    • 2

Cut out the rectangle. Lay the fleece rectangle on more fleece fabric and cut out another rectangle.

    • 3

Lay the two rectangles together. If there is an image on one side of the fleece, turn the image sides inward.

    • 4

Sew a straight stitch down both long sides of the fleece.

    • 5

Slide four tassels into one short end. Align the bottom end of each tassel with the edge of the fabric. Sew a straight stitch along the short end to close the end of the scarf and attach the tassels.

    • 6

Flip the scarf right side out through the open end. Arrange four tassels along this short end, fold the very edges of the fabric inward to make a smooth end and sew a straight stitch along the fabric.

    Headband

    • 7

Measure the circumference of the child’s head, subtract an inch and cut a strip of fleece to this length. Make the strip 4 inches wide. If the child is not available for measurement, the average head circumference of an early preteen is about 21 inches.

    • 8

Fold the strip in half and sew a straight stitch down the long, cut edge. Sew a short end closed as well.

    • 9

Turn the headband right side out through the open end.

    • 10

Slide the closed end into the open end and sew through all four layers to join the ends of the headband.

    • 11

Measure halfway up from either side of the seam. Sew a tassel over top of the halfway mark on each side. These tassels will fall near the ears when worn.
