How to Make Your Relationship Work When Your Life Is Busy
You have an important deadline at work, the car needs new tires, the movies need to be returned, you need to get groceries for tonight – there’s an endless list of things busying your life that make it hard for a relationship to work. 1
Balance your busy life with your relationship. You may have to say “No” to some things, such as after-work drinks with your co-workers or joining another committee at church. Don’t jeopardize your job or other relationships, but prioritize to give a balance, which helps keep your relationship healthy.
-
2
Stay in communication. While you may not be able to talk on the phone for an hour everyday, you probably have time to send a quick email that says, “I’m thinking of you.” Keep in contact with your partner, reminding them that you care about them.

3
Discuss any problems that arise because of your busy schedule. Listen to your partner’s frustrations and work toward compromise and solutions.
-
4
Act trustworthy. Keep commitments and let your partner know what you’re doing. If you’re never at home and rarely answer your phone, your partner may wonder if you’re acting untrustworthy. Establish trust, keeping the relationship healthy.
-
5
Make the most of time spent together. Don’t just sit on the couch, typing away on your laptop, hardly talking. Focus your attention on your partner and make him feel special. Do activities the other enjoys and give your love.
-
6
Eliminate things that cost you time and attention, but aren’t necessary. Instead of taking two trips a week to the grocery store, try to get all your shopping done in one trip, saving you time and energy. Set up your bills to be paid automatically from your bank account or credit card if it’s a regular payment that never changes, such as a monthly insurance payment.
-
7
Declare your love for your partner. She might feel neglected by your busy schedule, but reminding her that you love her helps her feel happy in the relationship.
