How to Make White Roses Change Colors

Dye roses the color of your choice for special occasions.

Roses grow in an array of colors such as red, pink, white and yellow. You may have even seen blue, lime green or black roses; however, those colors do not grow on roses bushes. Perhaps you would like to have a particular color rose for a special occasion such as turquoise blue. You can create different colored roses by dying fresh white roses the color of your choice.

Things You'll Need

• Vase
• Water pitcher
• Floral dye
• Food coloring
• Sharp knife
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Fill a container, such as a vase or water pitcher, with a cup of water.

2. Add two to three drops of floral dye or food coloring. Continue adding a drop at a time to achieve the desired color. Dilute with water if it is too dark.

3. Snip a half inch from the bottom of the stem of your white rose on a slanted angle with a sharp knife or pair of scissors. This promotes adequate water absorption.

4. Place the white roses in the container for 24 to 48 hours, monitoring the roses during the color absorption process to achieve the desired color.

5. Remove the dyed roses from the container, snip the stems again and place the roses into a vase with fresh water.
