DIY Bookbinding Without Glue
Reading a book would be quite difficult if all the pages weren’t bound together in the correct order. Although many books are bound together using glue to help the spine stay attached, there are other binding options if you don’t have glue on hand. One such option is to use screw posts to secure the pages together. Rivets come in many different lengths, so choose a size of screw post that matches the thickness of the book you want to bind.

1
Place all the pages of your book in a stack in the exact order that you want them to appear in your book. Secure the stack together by placing an elastic band from top to bottom and another from side to side.
-
2
Use a pencil to mark the exact location where you want to place your screw posts. Use a ruler to make sure the rivets are evenly spaced — the larger the book the more rivets you want to install.

3
Place the book on top of a scrap piece of wood that you don’t mind drilling into and then clamp the book and wood together using a table clamp.
-
4
Place the clamped book on a flat surface and use an electric drill to drill through the entire stack to create holes for your posts. Press down on the book while you drill to keep the holes completely in line with each other.

5
Unclamp the book and then insert the screw posts through all the holes on one side. Flip the book over and then wind on the top halves for your posts. Make sure they are secure and your book is complete.
