How to Block Print on a Pillow
Block printing is a method of stamping a pattern onto fabric or paper to create a design. If you have been looking for the perfect pattern for a pillow but cannot find it, you might want to create your own. This project requires attention to detail and care because it can be messy, but the finished product will be one of a kind. Block printing can be done in any design that you choose, from a geometrical print that covers the entire pillow to a few small stamps for added embellishment.

1
Iron your pillowcase or pillow cover and lay it flat on your foam mat. Put on latex gloves to protect your hands from the paint.
-
2
Place a small amount of fabric block printing ink into the ink tray. Use a small roller to spread the ink evenly throughout the tray.
-
-
3
Spread the ink onto the block or stamp of your choosing using the roller. Roll the ink on lightly as the ink should not go into the crevices of the block.
-
4
Practice stamping on a piece of paper to make sure that you have the right consistency of ink. Stamp the block evenly and lightly for best results.
-
5
Reapply ink to the block and begin to stamp your design onto the pillowcase or cover. You can use a repetitive design or a random design depending on your wishes for the finished product. Use multiple blocks for a more varied design. Stamp only one side of the pillowcase or cover at this time. If you desire to cover the other side, it is necessary to wait until the first side dries completely.
-
6
Hang the pillowcase or cover in a place where it can dry. Allow to dry for the time stated by the directions on your fabric ink. Repeat with the other side if desired.
