How to Finish Knitting a Headband
Knit headbands are a fashionable yet functional accessory. You can wear a heavier one in cold-weather months to keep your ears warm or don a lighter one during warmer months to keep your hair off of your face. If you would like to knit your own headband, you'll need to finish it by casting it off and sewing the seam. Casting off, or binding off, is an important skill to learn how to do properly, since you'll finish most knitting projects using the technique.

1
Work your headband pattern until it is at your desired length.
-
2
Begin casting off. Insert your right needle into the back of the first stitch on your left needle. Wrap the yarn counterclockwise around tip of the right needle and then pull it back and through the loop, pulling the stitch off of the left needle. You'll notice that this is a regular knit stitch.

3
Knit the next stitch from your left needle. You now have two stitches on your right needle.
-
4
Pull the first stitch on your right needle over the second stitch on the right needle and then slip it off of the needle. You can use either your fingers or your left knitting needle to pick up and pull off the stitch.
-
5
Knit the next stitch from your left needle. Repeat the same method as described in Step 4. Pick up the second stitch, pull it over the first stitch and then slide it off of the needle. Repeat this process until you have a single stitch remaining on your left needle. Cut the thread, leaving several extra inches of tail.
-
6
Thread the tail onto your yarn needle and loop it through the last remaining stitch. Pull tightly, forming a secure knot. Use the remaining part of the tail to sew the two ends of your headband together. Weave in any loose ends to finish the headband.
