Troubleshooting a GE S3700
The GE S3700 is a top loading washing machine that is no longer manufactured. Despite the fact that GE does not produce the washer any longer, many stores may still sell the appliance and many homes may have the washer installed. As such, troubleshooting information and techniques may be important to owners experiencing problems with the washing machine, such as issues with water filling or draining, when the washer is noisy or if water leaks from the unit. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

1
Connect the power cord on the GE washer to an active power outlet if the machine does not turn on as expected. Replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuses as necessary.
-
2
Sort clothes according to fabric and colors if items are stained or wrinkled after washing. Keep the load size to a moderate level to help improve water flow and agitation, which will help wash results.
-
-
3
Look in pockets and clean out any items like keys or paper tissue if there is shredded paper or lint on clothes after washing or items are torn or damaged. Loose items in the washer can get caught on fabric and cause tears, rips or other damage.
-
4
Choose a cycle with higher spin speed if items are still wet after the wash completes. Reduce the load size and remember that some cold wash temperatures leave pieces feeling more cold and damp.
-
5
Shut the washer lid firmly if the washer does not start once a cycle choice is made and “Start” is pressed. Unplug the washing machine if the washer still does not start. Wait for two minutes and then reconnect power and push “Start” to reset and begin the wash cycle.
-
6
Clean the drain hose and straighten the hose out if water does not drain out of the washing machine at the end of the cycle, measuring the distance of the drain outlet from the ground. Move the drain if less than 8 feet from the ground.
-
7
Clean the water inlet hoses if water does not fill the washing machine and straighten out each hose. Use a soft brush to clean the screens between the washing machine and the hoses. Turn the water valves on counterclockwise to ensure the water is turned on to the washer.
-
8
Tighten the hose connections if water is leaking on the floor around the washing machine and look inside each hose to verify a rubber washer is installed. Contact GE for new washers if missing or damaged. Clean out household drain clogs.
-
9
Reduce the amount of washing detergent used if there is too much soap left in the tub after the wash cycle. Consider changing to a low-sudsing detergent if the problem persists. Run a separate rinse and drain cycle to clean out the foam from the tub.
