How to Make Leg Warmers for Toddlers

Don't neglect her bottom half by skimping on the cozy leg warmers.

Running, chatting, jabbering toddlers are absolutely adorable whether they're wearing a $300 designer outfit or just a plain old diaper. When you add leg warmers to the mix, the combination is almost irresistible. Leg warmers are incredibly practical for the wintertime: Aside from keeping your little one's chubby gams nice and warm, they slide on and off easily for diaper changes. Instead of buying an expensive pair from your local upscale boutique, go DIY and create your own in a matter of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off the bottom of the knee socks right above the ankle.

    • 2

Turn the socks inside out and fold up the bottoms one inch.

    • 3

Wrap the elastic band around your child's ankle to see how long of a piece you will need. Cut about 1/4 to 1/2 inch less than you measured so that the elastic will fit snugly around your child's ankle and the leg warmers won't slide off.

    • 4

Cut a second piece of elastic of the same length for the second leg warmer.

    • 5

Sew the ends of each elastic piece together so that they each form a circle-shaped band.

    • 6

Insert each piece of elastic into the folded-over sections of fabric.

    • 7

Sew around the top of the fold to keep the elastic inside.

    • 8

Turn the socks back right-side out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your toddler can wear the leg warmers pulled up all the way or scrunched down. Since both looks are trendy, you can buy knee socks that are slightly long on your toddler and scrunch them down, then stretch them out as she grows.
