How to Make a Costume Crown
Posing as royalty is a theme for a fancy dress occasion with the central point of a royal figure being the crown worn on his head. You can make your own crown for a costume from items that can be found around the house. The crown can be a simple gold imitation or be more elaborate, depending on what type of crown you are trying to impersonate. Find various designs of crowns by looking at pictures of rulers throughout history.

1
Measure around the head of the person who will wear the crown.
-
2
Cut a strip of cardboard about 10 inches wide and slightly longer that the length needed to go around the wearer's head.
-
-
3
Glue a section of foil over one side of the cardboard.
-
4
Draw the design of the turrets of the crown on the back of the cardboard. These might be a zig-zag design, straight box turrets or crucifixes, depending on the style of crown you are impersonating.
-
5
Cut along the turret line to create the basic shape of the crown.
-
6
Arrange the crown into its correct shape, slightly overlapping the two ends. Staple the ends together.
-
7
Place the crown on several pieces of laid-out newspaper in a well-ventilated area. Spray the crown with gold spray paint. Allow time for the paint to dry.
-
8
Attach jewel stickers or any other trinkets to improve the look of your crown.
