DIY Foam Hat

Making a foam hat is a fun and easy do-it-yourself project that even children can try themselves, with adult supervision. The foam can be cut into virtually any shape and then secured to the head with an elastic band. You can also use the leftover pieces of foam sheet to construct small emblems, patches, words and other accessories to include on or with your new hat.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a marker to draw out your hat pattern onto the foam sheet. This will be the part of the hat that rests on the forehead and wraps around the sides of the head. The elastic band must attach to each side of the hat and wrap around, so leave space for the holes and plan your outline accordingly.

    • 2

Cut along the foam sheet outline with scissors, and snip the elastic band in half so it becomes an elastic strip. Then cut a small hole on each end of the foam sheet, and feed the elastic band through.

    • 3

Tie off the ends of the elastic bands, and use a small strip of tape to hold them to the inside of the hat.
