How to Make Candle Holders With Fabric Stiffener & String
Candle holders add atmosphere to just about any type of celebration or social gathering. Candle holders sold in department stores or candle shops can be expensive, especially if you need a couple dozen candle holders. Luckily, you don't have to pay department store prices; make your own candle holders right at home. Not only will making your own candle holders save you money but you get a chance to really personalize them.

1
Cover a glass cup, jar or candle glass with plastic wrap. The container should be large enough to hold the candles you wish to use with the candle holder. Tape the plastic wrap in place if necessary to keep it from moving.
-
2
Wrap the container entirely in string or embroidery thread, including the top and bottom. Create designs with the string or simple wrap it around the container repeatedly; the choice is yours.
-
-
3
Spray the container with fabric stiffener or use a paintbrush to brush fabric softener onto the container. Soak the string thoroughly. Allow the string to dry.
-
4
Cut the string around the top of the container and slide the container out of the string candle holder. Remove the plastic wrap. Trim any excess string away from the mouth of the candle holder.
-
5
Spray or paint the candle holder with a decoupage liquid for added sturdiness. Add glitter or other embellishments if desired and seal them with a second coat of decoupage liquid. Allow the string to dry thoroughly.
-
6
Slide a candle glass into the candle holder. Insert a candle. Light the candle and enjoy your craftmanship.

Tips & Warnings
Use sequins, beads, glitter, tinsel, buttons, seashells or other small decorations to add flair to your string candle holder.
Try using lace instead of string.
Never leave burning candles unattended.
Use a candle glass along with your string candle holder; don't set the candle directly in the candle holder. String is flammable.
