1
Find an oversized pair of pants, preferably a pair that is too big around the waist. Any kind of pants will work: jeans, slacks or even pajama pants with a loud print. If you’re making the clown pants for a child, go with parachute pants that fit tightly around the waist and ankles, but that fan out in the middle, so that the child won’t trip when walking.

2
Find a pair of suspenders and try them on with the pants to make sure that the pants aren’t still too long.

3
Hem the pants or roll them up and pin them so that they don’t drag too much on the ground, if they are still too long with the suspenders. Alternatively, you can make “high water” clown pants that come up your leg mid-calf or clown cut-off shorts.

Sew fabric and felt patches on your pants, making them colorful and one-of-a-kind. If you’re not an expert sewer, don’t worry; stitches that show are very clown-like. If you are using pants that you don’t want to permanently transform, stick the patches on with self-adhesive fabric tape.

5
Find some old buttons, pins and flare to add to your suspenders. Maybe your clown is political, a sport’s fan or just plain wacky. Some clowns enjoy a fresh flower corsage on their suspenders, while others get a kick out of the plastic water-squirting kind.
-
6
Hide clown accessories in your pants and pant pockets. Clowns always have something up their pant sleeve.
