How to Make a Long-distance Relationship Work in College
After high school, some boyfriends and girlfriends are apart longer because they attend different colleges. Unlike other couples, they are unable to spend every Saturday night together. Whether your significant other is just one state over or on the other side of the country, a long-distance relationship in college can be difficult. However, if you truly care for one another, you can use several strategies to help make your relationship last.

Recognize that things won't always be easy. Understand that there will be times when you may go months without seeing your significant other. If you prepare yourself in the beginning, you won't be as shocked when you don't see your for a while.

Develop a trusting relationship. Even though you may go a long time without seeing each other, you must not do anything to jeopardize your relationship. It's equally as important to trust your partner to do the right thing. Always be honest with your partner about what you're doing so he doesn't become worried or jealous.

Communicate with each other as often as you can. While you can't always see each other face to face, you can use other methods to communicate. Talk to each other on the phone, send messages through email or use a video chat.

Keep yourself busy. Join clubs at school, spend time with your friends, exercise or concentrate on your homework. Finding activities to keep you busy will distract you from feeling lonely and sad about being away from your significant other.
