The GE Profile Arctica Fridge is a side-by-side refrigerator with a water dispenser and ice cube maker. The water-dispensing system filters the water before it is made into ice cubes or dispensed into a cup. The fridge also has a defrost cycle that will allow you to automatically defrost the refrigerator and freezer. Before calling a serviceman to repair a problem with your refrigerator, you can try some simple troubleshooting solutions.

GE Profile Arctica Operation Problems

Video of the Day

Check first to make sure that the power cord is plugged in to an operating outlet. If the refrigerator is plugged in, check the fuse or breaker for the outlet to make sure that the fridge is getting power.

Video of the Day

  1. Check the refrigerator controls. Neither of the controls should be set to zero. Move the controls above zero to turn the fridge on.
  2. Check that the refrigerator is not in a defrost cycle. The defrost cycle will allow the fridge to warm up to remove built-up condensation. Wait for the cycle to be complete and the fridge will begin operating again.

Door and Temperature Problems

Door troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the doors of the refrigerator. If they are being held open, the motor will run for a long time or will come on and off frequently.
  2. Check that the refrigerator doors are firmly closed and that they are not being opened too frequently. Either occurrence will cause the temperature of the interior of the fridge to rise and can cause ice crystals on the exterior of frozen food.

Temperature troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the temperature controls. The coldest setting will cause the motor to run more often.
  2. Check the temperature control if the interior of the fridge or freezer is too warm. Select a cooler setting if necessary.
  3. Check for a large amount of food in the refrigerator. The motor will run more often if this occurs, as it will if the weather is hot or the refrigerator doors are being opened more often.

Problems With Icemaker

First, check to make sure that the icemaker power switch is set to "On."

  1. Check that the water line is connected to the water pipes in your house. The icemaker will not make ice if it is getting no water.
  2. Check the level of ice cubes in the ice bin. Level them if they are piled up and causing the automatic shutoff to activate.
  3. Check for ice cubes stuck in the icemaker. This will cause the green light on the icemaker to blink and the icemaker will not make ice.

Water Dispensing Problems

If you find your GE Arctica refrigerator water dispenser not working, first check to make sure that the water supply line is connected to the water in your house and that the GE Arctica water filter is not clogged.

  1. Press the water dispenser arm for two minutes to dispel any air in the system. Stop pressing the arm when water begins coming out.
  2. Press and hold the "Lock Control" pad for three seconds to unlock the water dispenser. This will allow water to be dispensed again.
  3. Dispense all of the water in the water system if the water tastes bad or is warm. This can happen if the water dispenser is not used often.
