Create a carnival wheel game in your own home.

Game wheels at county fairs and carnivals make for great fun. However, you don't have to go to a fair to play one. Building a game wheel can be done in relatively little time using items in your own home and in local stores. Constructing a game wheel can be a much cheaper alternative to buying one.

  • Lazy Susan, approximately 12 inches in diameter
  • Handsaw
  • Sandpaper
  • Measuring tape
  • Permanent marker
  • Ruler

Instructions

    • 1

Place the lazy Susan on a flat surface. Break off any pegs or rails from it. Use a handsaw for thicker pieces if you need to.

    • 2

Smooth the surface where the pegs were broken off with sandpaper.

    • 3

Measure the diameter of the lazy Susan with a measuring tape. Mark the exact center of it with a permanent marker.

    • 4

Put the ruler near the mark and draw a straight line with a pencil across the lazy Susan, effectively splitting it in half. Continue drawing lines across the lazy Susan's diameter until it is divided into eight to 12 equal parts.

    • 5

Place dowel rods along the edge of the lazy Susan at the end of each dividing line. Glue them in place.

    • 6

Place the lazy Susan on an easel.

    • 7

Place a dowel rod just above the top of the lazy Susan and glue it in place. Glue the leather strap to the bottom of the dowel rod so that it's just long enough to tap the dowel rods on the lazy Susan as it is spun.

    • 8

Paint each section of the game wheel a different color. Add stickers, glitter and other decorations to the wheel if desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • A game wheel is a great choice for children's birthday parties, family game nights and church and community events in your neighborhood.
