How to Make a Twist Necklace

Necklaces made from embroidery floss, pearl cotton, yarn, hemp, or plastic or leather lacing add color to the neckline of all who wear the item. You can make a twisted necklace from any string-like, easily knotted material. The twist in the necklace occurs through the knotting process. You can make a 16-inch twisted necklace in approximately 30 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Match the ends of two 24-inch and one 36-inch pieces of embroidery floss. Tie a knot approximately one inch from the gathered ends.

    • 2

Hook the knot under the clip on a clipboard.

    • 3

Separate the 36-inch piece of embroidery floss from the grouping. Place it on the left side. Gather the remaining two strands in a bundle.

    • 4

Make an "L" shape with the 36-inch piece of floss and place it over the bundle. Leave a 1-inch loop on the left side.

    • 5

Draw the end of the 36-inch piece of floss under the bundle and through the 1-inch loop.

    • 6

Pull the end of the floss and slide the knot to the top of the bundle. Repeat this process until the twisted necklace is 16 inches long.

    • 7

Tie a knot, using all three strands of embroidery floss, directly under the last twist.

    • 8

Cut the excess embroidery floss approximately 1-inch from the knot.
