1
Line up two motifs that require joining. Be sure that the corners, stitching and rows line up correctly. Pinning the pieces together can be helpful to beginners.
-
2
Thread a darning needle with yarn that matches the edges of both motifs. If the edges are not the same color, use a color that will blend well. Use a double length and tie the ends together so that it is impossible for the needle to fall off.

3
Secure the thread to the first crochet motif by threading it up through the first stitch -- passing the needle through the yarn on the hook and pulling tight. This makes a knot that is secured to the first crochet stitch.
-
4
Hold the crochet motif so that the right sides are facing up. Starting on the left side, slide the needle through a stitch and then slide it through the right side of the other motif, creating a weave. The stitching should be similar to lacing up a shoe.

To finish, secure the yarn to the motif by passing it through the same stitch several times. Cut one end of the yarn and weave all loose ends into the motif.

Tips & Warnings
Do not pull the stitches too tightly. Keep them slightly loose so the crocheted piece will lay flat.
