How to Make a Pixie Fairy Costume

Put together a fairy costume for your daughter.

A pixie fairy costume can be a charming Halloween solution for a little girl. Putting the outfit together requires just a few materials and tools, and you can make most of the necessary costume pieces yourself. This will save costs over purchasing a pre-made fairy costume from a specialty store, where items like this can sometimes be expensive. Plus, you can customize the pixie fairy costume for your little one, making sure the fit and color are just as she would like.

• Scissors
• Needle
• Thread
• Tulle
• Leotard
• Fabric dye
• Hanger cardboard tube
• Silver spray paint
• Cardboard
• Hot glue gun
• 2 wire hangers
• Old tights
• Tights
• Ballet slippers
• Glitter gel

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of elastic that is about the size of your child's waist. Sew the ends of the elastic together to make a loop.

2. Cut about four dozen strips of tulle, making each strip about 10 inches long and 2 inches wide. Tie each piece in a knot around the elastic loop, so the ends of the tulle hang down, making a tutu-style skirt. Use tulle in a pastel color, like pink or purple.

3. Dye a white leotard or bathing suit a color to match the tutu skirt. Use a box of fabric dye from the store and follow the box's instructions to dye the garment. Wash the item and let dry.

4. Spray paint a cardboard tube from a pants hanger using silver spray paint. Cut out a star from a piece of cardboard and spray paint it as well. Glue the star to the top of the tube, making a pixie wand.

5. Cut a pair of old tights in half, so the two legs are apart. Stretch one leg over a wire hanger and do the same with the other leg. Bend each hanger piece at the middle so each looks like the shape of a boomerang. Glue the pieces together with hot glue, making a set of wings.

6. Cut two pieces of elastic to about 1 foot each, gluing the ends of each piece together so you have two loops of elastic. Glue each loop to the center of the wings, so you have a set of fairy wings that can be worn over the shoulders.

7. Accessorize the costume with tights and ballet slippers. Place some glitter gel on your daughter's cheeks.
