How to Mash Up on "GarageBand"
GarageBand, a music recording and editing software from Apple, allows you to edit existing music. You can create "mashups" of songs or music tracks from your files by placing them in separate tracks in GarageBand where you will be able to mix them up, cut out segments, add instruments or create loops.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open GarageBand and select "New Podcast."
-
2
Click on "Audio" in the media browser and select a track from your iTunes library to export into GarageBand.
-
-
3
Drag the song track into "Male Voice," "Female Voice" or "Jingles Track."
-
4
Import a completely different second track into GarageBand. Choose a track with only music and no songs so the mashup doesn't sound chaotic. Follow the same procedure as for the first track.
-
5
Click on the "Track Editor" button in the bottom left corner of GarageBand to edit the music track to fit with the song track. (The "Track Editor" button shows a pair of scissors.)
-
6
Use the select tool in the Track Editor to cut out parts of the track, loop parts of the track or move the track around.
-
7
Click on the "Create New Track" button to add instruments to your mashup. Select "Software Instrument," "Real Instrument" or "Electric Guitar."
-
8
Save your project often. Click on "File" and click on "Save As."
-
9
Click on "Share" and select "Send Podcast to iTunes" to export your finished mashup.
