How to Crochet a Single-Stitched Afghan
Crocheted afghans are cozy and warm to curl under when the weather is cool. The wide variety of crochet patterns and yarn make each afghan a unique and individualized item. An afghan made with a single crochet stitch is one that even a crocheting novice will enjoy. The single crochet stitch is the basic stitch used in many crochet patterns. Make an afghan approximately 45 inches wide and 72 inches long with a single crochet stitch.

3
Single crochet in the second stitch from the end and in each stitch across for a total of 210 stitches. Chain one stitch. A single crochet stitch is made by inserting the needle through the last stitch. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook. Pull the yarn through the last stitch. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook. Pull the yarn through both loops on the crochet hook shaft.
-
4
Single crochet in the second stitch from the end and in each stitch across. Chain 1 stitch. Repeat the process until there is a tail of yarn approximately 12 inches long.
-
5
Tie the end of the yarn to a new skein. Continue to single crochet in each stitch until you meet the knot.
-
6
Place the two ends of the yarn along the top of the stitching in the last row. Complete a single crochet stitch with the two ends between the loops of yarn. Repeat the process until the ends of yarn are totally covered with single crochet stitches.
-
7
Single crochet to the end of the row. Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the second stitch from the end. Repeat Steps 4 to 6 until the afghan is the desired length.
-
8
Complete the last single crochet stitch. Cut the yarn approximately 3 inches from the last stitch.
-
9
Pull the end of the yarn through the loop. Pull tight to form a knot.
-
10
Weave the beginning and end piece of yarn back and forth through the row of stitching closest to the knots. Insert the end of the crochet hook through the stitch closest to the knot. Hook the yarn end with the hook on the crochet hook. Pull the end through the stitch. Repeat the process on the opposite side of the next stitch. Continue the process until the end of the yarn is woven into the row of single crochet stitches.
