Things You'll Need

• Plain pillow
• Permanent color markers
• Masking tape
• Small paint brush
• Acrylic paint
• Needle
• Thread
• Buttons

Instructions

1. Wash your pillow in the washing machine to remove any dirt or stains from the accent pillow. Allow it to air dry fully.

2. Tape strips of masking tape over the pillow where you do not want to paint. This works well for creating stripes, sharp-edged designs or lettering.

3. Draw freehand shapes and designs with the markers. Freehand drawing works well to design animal prints. Animal print is uneven and imperfect, so drawing it freehand is ok if you mess up.

4. Dip your paintbrush into the acrylic paint. Color in your designs by painting the pillow using up and down strokes. This ensures a smooth finish when the paint is dry.

5. Remove the masking tape slowly from the pillow. Allow the pillow to dry for 24 to 48 hours before placing it on your couch or chair.

6. Sew on buttons with the needle and thread for an added cute design to make your painted accent pillow eye-catching. Monograms can be sewn into the pillow to personalize it.
