How to Decoupage Metal Tubs
Decoupage is an enjoyable approach to satisfying creativity. Metal tubs are decoupaged to create wonderful centerpieces or other decorations. The simple craft uses ordinary items to create the look of professionally-painted masterpieces. However, decoupaging a metal tub requires no ability in sophisticated painting methods. It only requires easy techniques, such as cutting and pasting. With the use of store-bought decoupage supplies, you can create beautiful decoupaged metal tubs in a day.
Things You'll Need
- Printed art
- Scissors
- Newspaper
- Decoupage glue
- Foam paint brush
- Popsicle stick
- Paint
- Embellishments
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Sandpaper
- Primer
- Clear spray paint

Find art for your metal tub. Wrapping paper, magazines, cards, fabric, scrapbook paper and computer-generated images are good for decoupaging. Cut the images out, depending on the size of the image and the metal tub.

Set the metal tub on newspaper. Use a foam paint brush to dip into the decoupage glue. Place the glue on the metal tub. Affix the image on the metal tub, with the backside of the image glued to the tub. Press down firmly with fingertips. If bubbles appear, use a popsicle stick to smooth them out.

Allow the metal tub to dry for approximately three hours. Coat the image on the tub with more decoupage glue to seal. Allow the glue to dry between each coat.

Paint images or decorations on the bucket once the glue is dry. Seal the paint with a clear spray paint. Allow the clear spray paint to dry.

Finish the bucket with embellishments. Using a hot glue gun, glue ribbon, silk flowers, pearls and other decorative items to the metal tub.

Tips & Warnings
For added color, sand the metal tub prior to decoupaging. Prime and paint the tub, inside and out.
Seal computer-generated images with clear spray paint before adhering to the metal tub, to prevent color bleeding.
