Instructions

  1. Sewing the Dress

    • 1

This project is for a small child, approximately 2 to 3 years old, and requires two bandanas. If you want to make this dress for an older girl, add two additional bandanas on the bottom of the first two, elongating the dress. You can hem it accordingly.

    • 2

Pin over about 1 inch of the tops of both bandanas and pin in place. This should create a tube for the ribbon. Measure the child from the top of her shoulder to right below her armpit. Add 2 inches to this measurement and mark down from the top of both bandanas using the pins. If you want to make a longer dress, sew an additional bandana to the bottom of each original bandana, creating an overall longer piece of fabric.

    • 3

Pin the two sides of both bandanas together, keeping the right sides facing each other. It appears to be inside-out, so the stitching is hidden. Sew the sides together with an 1/2-inch seam.

    • 4

Cut two pieces of ribbon, each about 2 feet long. Work one of the ribbon pieces through the tube in the fabric. A safety pin can be used to help guide the ribbon. Repeat this step for the other side of the dress. Use ribbons to tie a bow on each side of the dress, over the girl's shoulders.
