How to Decoupage a Plate With Fabric
Decoupage can unleash your creative side with no particular artistic talent needed. You learned the only skills you need in kindergarten. Using simple cut and paste techniques, decoupage turns old glass plates and scrapes of fabric into display-worthy decor. With the correct decoupage supplies, you can create magnificent works of art for any room of your home or customize serving plates for any occasion.

1
Wash the plate with a mild dish soap. Rinse it thoroughly with water and dry it completely with a lint-free towel.
-
2
Spread newspaper on a flat surface.
-
-
3
Place the fabric on the newspaper, printed side facing up. Set the plate face up on top of the fabric. Move the plate over the fabric until you like the composition of the fabric image through the glass plate.
-
4
Cut a circle from the fabric 1 inch bigger than the glass plate. Set the plate aside, face down, on the newspaper.
-
5
Pour the decoupage medium into a disposable container. Dip the foam paint brush into the decoupage glue. Coat the entire surface of the printed side of fabric.
-
6
Position the fabric on the plate bottom, glue-side down. Press the fabric to secure it in place.
-
7
Place the fabric-covered plate on a coffee can or wide-mouth jar, fabric-side facing up. Allow the glue to dry for at least three hours.
-
8
Set the plate on the newspaper, with the fabric facing up. Trim the fabric around the edges of the plate with a razor blade.
-
9
Cover the fabric with another coat of decoupage glue. Set the plate on the coffee can again, fabric facing up, until it dries completely.
