How to Make a Bag Out of Tank Tops for Kids
Whether they're packing for an overnight trip or carrying toys to a friend's house, kids need tote bags as much as adults do. A soft and squishy tote bag that fits into a back pocket is less likely to be lost or left behind than a stiff bag. Turn your cast-off tank tops into handy tote bags for your kids to carry their valuable cargo in. The bags expand to hold a surprising amount of stuff, and washing them is simple once they get soiled.

1
Turn a tank top inside out and lay it on the work surface in front of you. Turn the shirt sideways, so the side seams are in the middle and the two armhole straps are in the center at the top. The front and back of the shirt will be folded in half and at the right and left of the center seams.
-
2
Pin the open bottom edge of the tank top closed. Make a line of pins 2 inches above the hem. Keep the line of pins straight across the entire shirt bottom.

3
Stitch across the bottom of the shirt right above the line of pins. Make another line of stitching 1/4-inch above the first one.
-
4
Turn the tote bag right-side out and fill it, using the armholes as handles.
