Your Yoshi teammate has no name until you give it one yourself.

In Chapter 3 of "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door", a Yoshi joins your party...as an egg. The egg follows you wherever you go, but it cannot aid you in battle and has no special skills until the Yoshi hatches. The hatching of the egg is not based on time (real-time or in-game time) or any special actions but by sufficiently advancing the storyline in Chapter 3. The hatched Yoshi is necessary to defeat two powerful enemies in the Glitz Pit and proceed through the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Proceed through the Glitz Pit tournament until you defeat Spike Storm. Leave the Glitz Pit building to find a strange egg bouncing around Mr. Hoggle's hot dog stand. Chase the egg around until it bounces on top of the hot dog stand. Use a Spin Jump on the blue switch near the juice bar to make a stairway appear. Climb the stairs and use the spring to reach the Airplane Panel, then use the Plane skill to glide over to the top of the hot dog stand and retrieve the egg.

    • 2

Return to the Glitz Pit and fight the Hand-It-Overs, the Mind Bogglers, the Punk Rocks and the Bob-omb Squad. Fulfill each battle's special condition to proceed up the ranks until you reach the 11th seed.

    • 3

Attempt to battle the Armored Harriers -- all of your attacks will be utterly unable to damage the Iron Clefts. Fulfill the match condition and then flee from battle -- the Yoshi egg has hatched during the battle. Name the Yoshi and challenge the Armored Harriers again -- the Yoshi's Gulp attack can damage them and allow you to proceed through the Glitz Pit tournament and the rest of the game.

Tips & Warnings

  • The color of the hatched Yoshi is determined by the amount of time that has passed between you obtaining the egg and the egg actually hatching.

  • 0 to 6 minutes: Green

  • 6 to 9 minutes: Red

  • 9 to 11 minutes: Blue

  • 11 to 15 minutes: Orange

  • 15 to 18 minutes: Pink

  • 18 to 19 minutes: Black

  • 19 to 20 minutes: White

  • The cycle resets back to green after 20 minutes or if you reload the game. The Yoshi's color has no bearing on its power or abilities, only its appearance.
