Make your own liners for your rain boots.

If you're like most people, you don't like rainy days, but wet weather can be refreshing, if you're wearing boots that keep your feet dry. Rain boots are essential footwear for a rainstorm and are typically made of rubber and other water-proof material. Unlike winter snow boots, rain boots are usually not lined. To wear your rain boots in colder climates, make your own fleece liners to keep your toes warm. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure or trace your feet to determine the size of your fleece liners. Draw the outline an inch larger than the outside of your left and right foot to provide ample room for sewing. Measure the height and circumference of the shaft or top of the boots to determine the size for this part of the boot.

    • 2

Use light to medium weight fleece cloth or use material from old fleece sweatshirts. Lay the tracing paper onto the cloth and cut out the sizes needed. Cut the foot or insole area and two pieces to form the foot covering area. Cut a long piece to form the boot shaft. Cut pieces for the other boot.

    • 3

Sew the insole bottom piece to the two pieces that will form the area covering the boot, to make a slipper. Attach the long circular shaft piece to the slipper to make the finished boot lining. Repeat for the other boot.

    • 4

Sew the pieces together to make the foot covering area and the shaft of the boots using a sewing machine or needle and thread. Hem the top of the fleece liner by folding it over and sewing with the needle and thread to make a neatly finished edge.

    • 5

Insert the fleece liners into your boots or wear them over your socks before putting on the rain boots. Ensure that the boots are comfortable to walk in before venturing out into the rain.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also use an old light woolen sweater to make fleece liners for rain boots. However, use fabric made from natural, more breathable materials to make sure your feet don't get sweaty and hot.

  • Do not use very thick fleece material to make the fleece liners, as this can make your boots fit too tightly. Do not use fleece liners in boots that already have a lining or are tight, as this can make them too small and restrict blood circulation in the feet.
