How to Troubleshoot Vmware NTP Issues

VMware is a software application that lets you create multiple computers on one system. This is called "virtualization." Each operating system and computer "instance" runs in its own memory space, so the virtual computers set up in VMware act as a different computer system. If you have the network time protocol (NTP) set up on the computer, you can troubleshoot issues using some standard checks on the system.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the computer's network cable and connection. If the cable is not properly seated in the network card, a network connection fails and the NTP service is not able to update the system time with the central server.

    • 2

Check that the NTP server is available. To check that the server is online, click the Windows "Start" button and type "cmd" into the text box. Press "Enter." Type "ping NTPServer" where "NTPServer" is your server name. Press "Enter." If a "success" message is returned, then the computer was found on the network.

    • 3

Remove any restrictions from your firewall. The steps to add an exception for NTP are determined by your firewall software, but each firewall application has an "exceptions" list. An exceptions list allows specified protocols to pass to and from the computer. You must create an exception for NTP, so the protocol can pass through.
