1
Locate the outlets where the Christmas lights will plug in. Plug the lights into the electrical outlet and start moving them up the wall. Secure the Christmas light cord in place on the wall with clear, double-sided tape.
-
2
Use the ladder to take the Christmas lights up the height of the wall to the ceiling. Tape the Christmas lights in the corner where the wall and the ceiling meet. It is important to secure this spot so you can achieve the look you want with the twinkle lights on the ceiling, without them falling at the corners.

3
String the Christmas lights in a drape-like fashion across the length of the ceiling. Make one drape by allowing the lights to dangle 6 inches away from the ceiling in the middle of the drape and then tapering back up to the ceiling. Secure the lights in place with tape. Create another drape directly after the end of the first drape, and so on. Climb down the ladder to move it periodically, so you can cover the ceiling with the lights.

4
Retrieve the tulle and climb back up the ladder. Secure the end of the tulle fabric with a push pin into the corner where the wall and ceiling meet. Make sure you do not accidentally pierce the Christmas light cord with the push pin.

5
Follow the drape movement of the lights with the tulle. The tulle should be placed over the draped lights, so the lights are glowing behind the tulle. Instead of following the same movement of the lights, you can also weave the tulle in and out of the lights so they crisscross. Secure the tulle periodically to the ceiling with more push pins.

Tips & Warnings
You can create various ceiling designs with Christmas lights and tulle. Another idea is to start in the middle of the ceiling and create four large drapes that move from the center to the four corners of the room.
Use caution when working with electrical wires and cords.
Check the bulbs of the Christmas lights before hanging them so you can replace burned out bulbs ahead of time.
