How to Crochet Scratchies
Scratchies are crocheted from strips of nylon netting. They are durable, friendly to hands and cooking pots, ecological, washable and economical as well as easy to make. Since they are small and use simple stitches, they are an ideal project for beginning crocheters. All of the items needed are readily available from a local department store or craft store. Scratchies make quick, personalized gifts for newlyweds, co-workers or just about anyone else who does dishes.

1
Cut the nylon netting into half-inch strips. Join the strips together by cutting a slit in each end of the strips. Then thread a second strip through the slit in the first, thread the other end of the second strip through the slit in the end you just threaded through the first and pull tight. Do this for all strips. Roll the strips up in a ball.

Make a loop in the end of the nylon netting string. Place it over the crochet hook and crochet a 6-stitch chain. Slip stitch the last stitch to the first. Single crochet through the middle of the crocheted ring till it is filled with stitches. Join the ends together, then chain two. Double crochet in the first stitch, chain one, double crochet in the next stitch all the way around.

Tips & Warnings
Scratchies can come in all shapes and stitch patterns. The important thing is to make them from a slightly scratchy material so they can do their job as scrubbers.
