Get your name brand out there, and you can be on stage.

With the advancement of the Internet, getting your music heard has never been easier. Unfortunately, just because your music is available on the Internet does not mean that people are downloading or even listening to it. Simply placing a song on YouTube is no guarantee that you will become an overnight success. There is still a lot of other work to be done to gain name recognition. Advertising yourself through social networking will help you to get recognized.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a website for yourself or your band. Create a specific logo or avatar for the site and use it everywhere you go on the Internet. Add a blog to your site where you can update information about upcoming song titles, your own music genre preferences and what your band is doing.

Create accounts with as many social networking sites as you can find; MySpace, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are just a few that many professionals use. The goal is to make sure that other people do not use your same band name. Name recognition is the key to making sure that your music can be found. Using your band name on every social networking site will prevent others from using the same name. Load sample music onto the sites so that people can hear you and get to know your style. Make sure that you use the same avatar or logo as on your main site.

    • 3

Visit music forums and involve yourself in comments others make about your music. Give others the feeling they have a connection with you by having open conversations with them. When they feel that they can relate to you, they may become repeat customers of your music.

Create a music video and upload it on YouTube. Use a video camera to shoot a film of your band, or take still shots and cycle through them as you have your music playing in the background. Link your YouTube video through your social networking sites for greater reach to potential listeners. Those that have enjoyed your music will refer it to others if it is easy to access.

Submit your music to different Internet radio stations. Register with Pandora and Last.fm to be able to submit music demos. Listing your music with Amazon will allow them to link your music label to your song and create sales. Submitting your music to Pandora is similar to submitting music to record label companies. Send in a sample of just a few titles and wait to hear back from them. Last.fm only requires you to upload your music and register the music as your band.
