How to Crochet Wrist Cuffs

Save a fox; crochet a pair of faux-fur cuffs.

Give your favorite sweater or jacket an update with a pair of crocheted cuffs. Use fluffy faux-fur yarn for the main part of the cuff; then make a ribbed inner cuff from a smooth one. The result is a fashionable cuff you can slip on and wear with several different garments. These cuffs are an easy project for a beginning crocheter who's ready to tackle something with more style than a dishcloth, potholder or scarf.

Things You'll Need

  • Ball of fluffy faux-fur yarn
  • U.S. size K-10.5 crochet hook
  • Tape measure
  • Ball of microfleece worsted weight yarn

Instructions

  1. Furry Outer Cuffs

    • 1

Make 13 chain stitches using the faux-fur yarn and the size K crochet hook. Work a single crochet in the second chain stitch from the hook and in every stitch to the end of the row. You'll have 12 stitches.

    • 2

Work rows of single crochet until the cuff measures 12 inches in length. Check the length with the tape measure.

    • 3

Fold the cuff in half and slip stitch the first and last rows together. Make an identical second fur cuff.

    Inner Cuff

    • 4

Attach the microfleece yarn to the cuff's seam using the size H crochet hook. Begin the inner cuff by making seven chain stitches. Turn your work.

    • 5

Work a single crochet in the second chain stitch from the hook and in each stitch across. You'll have six stitches.

    • 6

Insert the size H hook into the next stitch on the long edge of the cuff. Pull up one loop. Insert the hook into the next cuff stitch and pull up another loop. Pull the yarn through all the loops on your hook. You've made one double slip stitch.

    • 7

Chain one stitch and turn your work. Work single crochets in the back loop of each of the six inner cuff stitches. Turn and work back using the back loops of the previous row. Attach the inner cuff by making a double slip stitch across the next two stitches of the furry outer cuff.

    • 8

Repeat the previous steps above, working two rows of single crochet and attaching the inner cuff to the outer one with a double slip stitch until all the stitches of the outer cuff have been worked. Slip stitch the first and last rows together to make the seam. Make another ribbed inner cuff for the second furry outer cuff the same way. Weave in any loose ends on both cuffs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make two furry outer cuffs but don't make the ribbed inner ones. Sew the completed cuffs to the sleeves of a plain sweater or jacket.

  • Make the inner cuffs of a silk-wool blend yarn for a touch of satiny luxury and comfort.
