How to Make a Texture Sheet With Polymer Clay
Polymer clay is a popular sculpting medium. It is soft and elastic but becomes hard and durable when baked. Polymer clay is pliable; it is easy to press different textures into it. Any pressed texture will stay in place and, once the clay is baked, will become permanently set. The properties of polymer clay allow you to make clay texture sheets that you then can use to decorate your other polymer clay projects.
Things You'll Need
- Rolling pin or pasta machine
- Knife
- Stamps or object for making impressions
- Cardboard
- Aluminum foil
Instructions
-
-
1
Take some polymer clay of your choice and knead it thoroughly to soften it and make it of uniform consistency.
-
2
Place the clay on a flat, clean surface and use a rolling pin to flatten the clay to the thickness of about 1/4 inch. You may also pass the clay through a pasta machine and stack two or three pieces together so that the sheet is not too thin.
-
-
3
Use a knife to trim the piece of flattened clay into a neat, even shape.
-
4
Take a texture stamp or any other object of your choice and start pressing it onto the clay sheet, applying the pattern systematically over the entire sheet. Apply even pressure and make sure that you don't press the object all the way through the sheet.
-
5
Place the texture sheet on a piece of cardboard, place the cardboard on a piece of aluminum foil and insert everything into a toaster oven.
-
6
Bake the texture sheet in a toaster oven according to the instructions on the polymer clay packaging.
