Louis Vuitton is a brand name of bags, luggage and other leather goods. Many pieces of Louis Vuitton merchandise have brass hardware such as trim, closures and locks. Although brass does not rust, rust transfers to brass and other metals. Brass tarnishes, turning gray or black over time if not cleaned regularly. Storing Louis Vuitton products near metals that do rust, such as iron or steel, increases the chances of rust transfer. Cleaning the brass hardware on Louis Vuitton bags and luggage requires time and care so as not to stain or damage the fabric.
Things You'll Need
- Dishwashing liquid
- Cotton balls
Fill a bowl with warm water.
Add one to three drops of dishwashing liquid. Stir the mixture with a spoon or a finger to make a soapy cleaning solution.
Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and clean one area of brass at a time. Take your time and be careful not to get the leather, canvas or fabric of the Louis Vuitton item wet.
Dip a new cotton ball in clean water. Wipe the cleaning solution off the brass.
Dry it with a soft cloth and buff it to get the brass to shine.
Repeat steps 3 through 5 for all brass areas on the Louis Vuitton product.
Tips & Warnings
- Have dry cloths available to wipe up any spills on the fabric.
- Although brass cleaners are an alternative way to clean brass, do not use these products on lacquered brass. The cleaner could damage the brassware. Many Louis Vuitton handbags have lacquered brass.
