A bookmark with a tassel is useful and makes a good gift.

A bookmark is always a useful thing to have and saves books from having the corners of the pages folded over. To add an extra element to the bookmark, a tassel can also be added so the bookmark never gets lost between the pages.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of cardboard 4 inches long and 2 inches wide.

    • 2

Wrap colored yarn around the cardboard width-wise around 15 times. The more wraps, the bigger the tassel. Leave the open end of the yarn facing away from the cardboard.

    • 3

Cut the yarn at the same side of the cardboard as the open end to leave several pieces of doubled up yarn.

    • 4

Take a loop of yarn and tie it around the middle of the doubled up pieces, then tie on a smaller piece of yarn just below the top of the tassel to create a bell shape.

    • 5

Cut the ribbon to the desired shape, punch a single hole in one end and pull the loop of yarn through it.

    • 6

Put the tassel through the loop of yarn and pull tight to create the bookmark with a tassel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Different colored pieces of yarn can be used as long as the open end for each color faces the same way.
