How to Wrap a Wedding Cake in Freezer Wrap
Some wedding cakes are massive and there tends to be plenty of cake remaining after the reception is over. Some couples have taken it upon themselves to save part of their wedding cake, such as the top tier of a multi-tier wedding cake, to serve as part of the first anniversary celebration. However, without proper protection, that cake can get stale or soggy and inedible. Properly wrapping a wedding cake in freezer wrap can allow you and your spouse to enjoy more of your wedding cake at a later date. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Plastic container
- Plastic wrap
- Zipper-lock bag
- Cardboard cake round
- Aluminum foil
- Adhesive label

Remove any adornments from the top of the cake, such as sugar flowers. Place them in a plastic container and seal with a lid. Wrap the container in plastic wrap or a zipper-lock bag for added protection.

Place the cake on a cardboard cake round and set it in the refrigerator. Allow the cake to chill for at least four hours in order to harden the icing.

Remove the plastic wrap from the box and roll some out. Remove the cake from the refrigerator.

Set the cake in the middle of a sheet of plastic wrap. Place the cut end of the wrap over top of the cake and lift the cake up. Wrap the roll around the cake several times in the same direction. Cut the plastic wrap from the roll.

Move the cake 90 degrees and repeat the previous step.

Place the cake in an airtight bag or wrap with aluminum foil. Place an adhesive sticker on the cake and label and date it. Place cake on a level shelf in your freezer.

Tips & Warnings
A dark, dense wedding cake, such as chocolate, nut or carrot cake, will keep for up to a year. Lighter cakes, such as white or yellow cake, or cakes with whipped cream filling should only be kept for up to six months.
