How to Install a Semi Rigid Duct to a Dryer

Elizabeth Knoll

Semi-rigid duct is made out of aluminum and can be bent to allow for curves and offsets in the duct run. While it is best to use rigid duct from the dryer to the wall termination, clearance issues may require the use of semi-rigid duct. Semi-rigid duct may also be used as a temporary connection until you can install rigid duct. It is a much better choice than flexible ducting as it will not collapse on itself and the inside is smoother which prevents trapping and buildup of lint.

Step 1

Open your metal hose clamp fully and slide it over the semi-rigid duct. Do not force a tight hose clamp over the duct as it can kink, rip or otherwise damage the duct.

Step 2

Grasp the semi-rigid duct and with a side-to-side twisting motion, slide it over the connection on the back of the dryer.

Step 3

Rotate and slide the hose clamp so that it is on top where the semi-rigid duct overlaps the dryer connection.

Step 4

Tighten the hose clamp with your screwdriver to secure it to the dryer connection. Snug is best; over-tightening the hose clamp may kink or collapse the duct connection on the dryer.
