How to Make a Single Wave Friendship Bracelet

Friendship bracelets can be fun to create in your spare time. You can customize friendship bracelets in many different ways through color choices, various types of knots and even with the addition of beads. Wave friendship bracelets create a wave effect with the different colors you choose. You can give a wave friendship bracelet to all of your friends or keep it for yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose four different colors of string. Three of the colors will be seen in the wave friendship bracelet, while the fourth color is used only to keep it all together.

    • 2

Cut one 40-inch piece of each of the four colors. Fold each piece in half and cut it, so there are two equal-length pieces of each color.

    • 3

Place the string in color order, with the same colors together and the fourth “unseen” color all the way to the right. Tie all of the pieces in a knot at the top. Clip the knot onto a clipboard to hold it steady.

    • 4

Take the first string just to the left of the “unseen” colors and make two forward knots over each of the two “unseen” strings. Make a forward knot by creating a “4” with the strings, using the "unseen" color as the straight part of the "4." Cross the colored string as the pointed part of the “4” over the “unseen” color. Then pull the colored string under the "unseen" string and through the open part of the "4" tight all the way to the top of the knot. With that knot, the colored string will now be on the right side of the "unseen" strings. Always start with the “unseen” string that is closest to the colored strings.

    • 5

Take the next string (same color as the last one) and make two forward knots over each “unseen” strand.

    • 6

Continue making forward knots in the same fashion with the remaining strings until all of the colored strings are to the right of the “unseen” strings.

    • 7

Take the first string to the right of the “unseen” strings and make two backward knots over each of the two “unseen” strings. A backward knot is similar to a forward knot, but now create a backward "4," so the point is in the opposite direction. Since the colored strings have switched sides, you will now start with the opposite “unseen” string than before.

    • 8

Continue doing the same technique with the next five colored strings.

    • 9

Create forward and backward knots until the wave friendship bracelet is large enough to fit. Tie a knot on the end and then tie the two ends together to complete the bracelet.
