How to Make a Bubble Skirt for a Girl
Bubble skirts are a hot trend in fashion. These full skirts flare out and finish with a poofy hem that looks like it bubbles out, as opposed to a traditional smooth hem. Making a custom bubble skirt by hand is easy enough for beginner sewers to do. A handmade bubble skirt is sure to be a go-to item in any fashionista's wardrobe.

1
Measure from your waist to where you want the skirt's hem to fall. Add 6 inches to this measurement.
-
2
Measure the length onto your fabric and mark with tailor's chalk and cut, leaving about 3/4 of an inch for seam allowance. The fabric should be at least 25 percent wider than your hips, because the skirt is full and poofy.
-
-
3
Fold the fabric in half width-wise with the right sides facing in. Pin the fabric, and sew along the edge.
-
4
Fold the top of the skirt over twice so no raw edge shows, and pin it. Fold down the fabric far enough so your elastic can fit through the fold.
-
5
Sew along the fold, leaving a small section unsewn. Feed a piece of elastic that fits snugly around your waist through the hole. Attach one end to a safety pin to help you pull it through.
-
6
Sew the ends of the elastic together, then sew the hole shut.
-
7
Take another piece of elastic and wrap it snugly around your thighs where you want the skirt's hem to fall. Cut the elastic to size.
-
8
Fold the bottom of your skirt over twice so the raw edge doesn't show and there is enough room to feed the elastic through. Pin and sew, leaving a small hole.
-
9
Feed the elastic through the casing, sew the ends together and sew the hole shut.
