Moss, mildew, algae, mold or any other type of fungus on your patio is unsightly. It can also pose a danger because the patio may become slippery when it gets wet. Moss and fungus thrive in shady, damp areas, so your patio is especially susceptible if it doesn't get much sunlight or is exposed to excessive amounts of water. Whether your patio is brick, concrete or stone, you can kill fungus and moss on your patio and take precautions to keep it from coming back.
Step 1
Make a bleach and water solution. Add one part chlorine bleach and 10 parts water into a bucket. Pour the bleach solution directly onto the fungus and moss spots on the patio.

Step 2
Scrub the patio vigorously with a stiff scrub brush to remove the moss and fungus. Rinse well with water.
Step 3
Mix 2 gallons warm water and ½ cup of washing soda if any moss or fungus remain. Scrub the patio with a scrub brush and the cleaning solution until the spots are gone. Washing soda is an alkaline product also known as sodium carbonate, and is commonly used for cleaning and stain removal around the home. It can be found on the laundry or cleaning aisle of most grocery stores.
