How to Make Paper Cork Coasters for Wine
If you're hosting a wine party or simply looking for a new decorative addition for your home, create custom made coasters using cork paper. This material, which usually comes in rolls, is easy to shape and decorate into one-of-a-kind coasters. Design the cork paper coasters to complement your wine glasses, color them to match the rest of your home decor or create personalized paintings on them to accent a party's theme.

1
Lay the cork paper on a flat surface, on top of a scrap material that you don't mind cutting into, such as cardboard.
-
2
Use a pencil to draw at least six shapes on the material, which will represent the outlines of your coasters. These can be any shape you want your coasters to be, as long as they're about four inches wide and securely support the bottom of a wine glass. A square, circle or flower shape are all adequate shapes.

3
Cut out along the marked lines with a craft knife, slicing completely through the cork material. If the cork paper has any rough edges or burrs along the cut lines, smooth out the sides with a piece of sandpaper.
-
4
Sketch a design on the surface of the coasters, such as words or shapes. This can be done by hand or with a stencil.
-
5
Color in the sketched designs with waterproof acrylic paints. Paint over only part of the cork material or adorn the entire top surface of the coaster. Allow the paints to dry completely.
-
6
Cover the top surface of the coaster with a clear acrylic sealant to protect your design when a wine glass is placed on it. Let the sealant dry before using your coasters.
