How to Mirror Something in Blender

Add a mirror reflection of your object.

Creating a mirror reflection of something in Blender lets you produce an effect similar to what happens when you look in a mirror or into the water when the sun is reflecting off of it. Blender is a 3-D graphics software that creates visual effects for films, video games and other 3-D applications. Create a mirror reflection by inserting a reflective surface and a "UVSphere," which is a spherical object, and then editing the mirror transparency settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Blender application and start a new file.

    • 2

Click the "Ray" button in the display settings window. This enables ray-tracing in your scene.

    • 3

Delete the default cube on the screen and replace it with a two-dimensional plane.

    • 4

Insert a "UVSphere" above the two-dimensional plane with the default amount of rings and segments.

    • 5

Select the plane and provide it with a "Material" on the "Material Settings" window that extends across the screen.

    • 6

Click the "Mirror Transp" tab in the buttons window.

    • 7

Press the "Ray Mirror" button. Set the "Ray Mir" to 0.32, the "Depth" to 6, the "Fresnel" to 0.0 and the "Fac" to 1.25. Adjust the settings to create a slightly different reflection. A "Ray Mir" value of 0 indicates no reflection while a value of 10 represents the reflection from a perfectly polished mirror. The "Fresnel" setting controls how reflective the surface is in regard to the viewing direction and the surface. The "Fac" setting adjusts the blending between reflective and nonreflective surfaces.

Press the "F12" key to render the scene. You now have a mirror reflection of the sphere on the plane.
