How to Trim Credits in a Movie Using Adobe Premiere

The Adobe Premiere "Titler" tool lets you create titles and credits. The titles can be static or animated and placed before, after or over video footage in your production. Title or credit files created in the Titler are automatically added to the Project panel and are treated by Premiere like any other video asset. They are placed in one of the video timeline tracks when you add them to your project and can be trimmed like any other audio or video file in the project.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Adobe Premiere Pro. Load an existing project from the Welcome screen or click “New Project.”

    • 2

Click “Title,” then “New Title.” Create a new title and close the Titler window. The title is saved as an asset in the Project panel.

    • 3

Drag the title into a video track in the timeline. If the title occupies the same space as a video clip in another track, the title text will overlay the video.

    • 4

Right-click the title in the timeline and click “Speed/Duration.” Enter a new duration for the title in the “Duration” field to shorten the title.

    • 5

Click the “Razor” tool, place it over the title segment at the location where you want to trim it and click. The title is cut at that location. Click the “Selection” tool and click the unneeded portion of the title. Press the “Delete” key.

Tips & Warnings

  • Duration changes and trims made in the timeline do not affect the title assets in the Project panel. If you accidentally trim too much from a title in the timeline, you can delete it and drag another instance of the title into the timeline.

  • You can create all of your titles, credits and other text objects and save them with your project to place as needed.
