How to Make Buns for Ballet
One of the most recognizable features of a prima ballerina -- after the tutu -- is the ballet bun. Generations of dancers have perfected this well-secured and tightly controlled hair style, which allows them to focus on their dancing without the distraction of loose, unruly hair. The bun also serves to create a clean, crisp, professional look.
Things You'll Need

- Hair spray
- Hair gel
- Hair elastic, covered
- Bobby pins
- U-shaped pins
- Brush
- Hairnet
Instructions
-
-
1
Spray hair with water to dampen it, using a spray bottle. Brush the hair to remove any tangles.
-
2
Apply hair gel. Start at the hair surrounding the face and apply the gel by squirting a dab into your hand and working it back to the lengths of the hair.
-
-
3
Brush the hair back from the face and up to form a ponytail at or just below the crown.
-
4
Fasten the hair into a ponytail with your covered hair elastic.
-
5
Apply a little more gel to catch flyaway hair and create a smooth, clean appearance.
-
6
Twist the ponytail until it starts to coil and wrap around the elastic, forming a bun.
-
7
Insert several U-shaped hair pins into the bun, attaching it to the hair beneath the elastic. This holds the coil securely in place.
-
8
Wrap a hairnet around the bun as many times as you can.
-
9
Secure the hairnet to the bun with bobby pins. Look for any flyaway or stray hairs. Use a bobby pin to secure them.
-
10
Spray the hair with hair spray.

Tips & Warnings
Don't work with freshly washed hair as it won't hold as well.
Choose a hair elastic and hairnet that matches your hair color for a clean look.
