You can create and edit songs on your Mac with GarageBand.

When you are working on a song on your Mac with GarageBand, you may determine that you need to edit the singing. GarageBand is a free application that Apple installs on every recent Mac. You can use GarageBand to record instrumental music and people singing. You can adjust the sounds, instruments and tempo of a song, as well as edit the vocals. For example, you could remove a section of singing that you don’t want to use, or you could copy a section of singing if you want to repeat it in the song.

Instructions

    • 1

Click “GarageBand” on your Mac to launch Apple’s native application for making and editing music. Open the GarageBand project that has singing that you want to edit.

    • 2

Double-click the track containing the recorded vocals at the point where you want to edit. The vocals appear in the editing pane at the bottom of the GarageBand window.

    • 3

Drag to select the vocal portion that you want to edit. Press the “Play” button to confirm that you have selected the exact section of the vocals that you want to edit.

    • 4

Click “Edit” from the GarageBand menu, then click “Delete” if you want to remove a section of someone’s singing.

    • 5

Click “Edit” from the GarageBand menu, then click “Copy” if you want to copy the selected section of singing. Click another point in the song at which you want to copy the music. Click “Edit,” then click “Paste” to paste a copy of the vocals. This is a useful technique if you want to make repeated choruses sound the same.
